Seachtain na Gaeilge

Seachtain na Gaeilge was a great success again this year. Lots of activities took place in every classroom. All classes had an Irish Dancing lesson with Mrs. Keane. Junior classes were treated to a concert of Irish music from some of our past pupils who are now in the Senior School, while musicians from the Community College played for an appreciative audience of 1st and 2nd class pupils. Everyone in the school enjoyed speaking as much Irish as possible and each day the Gaeilgeoir an Lae from each class got special recognition and a wrist band marking his or her achievement. Maith sibh a pháistí!

Global Citizenship assembly

We had an assembly recently to celebrate the hard work the children had been doing to be better global citizens.

Green School members!

The Green School members all talked about Fair Trade and Global Citizenship. They were super!

All the children designed 'Freddie the Flag' which will be our Global Citizenship flag. The overall winner was Alanah. Well done Alanah! And well done to all the other finalts. Everyone did a great job!

Alanah in Senior Infants-the overall winner :)
Aisling, Alanah, Beth and Dara

Each class received a Global Citizenship Award. Here is Jacob and Daniel from Mrs. Bowe's class holding their award and  Fair Trade tag.

Global Citizenship

We have been working hard lately working towards our sixth Green Flag for Global Citizenship. The children have been learning all about it.

What is Global Citizenship?
Some people are citizens of Ireland and some are citizens of Ireland and other countries. Even though people may come from other countries we are all equal.  We are all different. We have different talents and we all like different things. But it is really important to remember that we are ALL still equal and we all belong to the same world.
We are all different but equal.

This bar chart shows all the different nationalities in our school.

Fair Trade

By choosing to buy Fair Trade products, we can be better Global Citizens. Ghana is one of the top producers of cocoa in the world and being a cocoa farmer is hard work. Some greedy, local cocoa buyers will try and ‘fix’ the scales giving farmers unfair prices. Fair Trade has made sure that Ghana’s cocoa farmers get better prices for their cocoa crops. Here are other Fair Trade products.

Here is our Green School/Fair Trade board. Many of the children brought in Fair Trade products for us to add to it.

Happy Christmas! :)

The school was very busy in the run up to Christmas. There was a lot happening. Second Class, in preparation for their First Holy Communion, had a beautiful carol service in the church. Also, Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class performed their Christmas plays in the halla. All the children did a great job! Well done!

We also had a special visitor visit our clasess on Monday 21st of December! :)

Senior Infants had a pyjama day and there was lots of other Christmas activities happening around the school including special Christmas Art and Christmas songs. We had an assembly in the halla before the holidays and each class performed a special song.
Second Class sang a wonderful rendition of Walking in the Air from The Snowman

We hope everyone has a lovely Christmas this year and enjoys the break. We look forward to a happy new year in 2016!

Sam Maguire comes to visit.

We had a very exciting day last Friday (13th November)! Dublin footballer, Dean Rock, came to our school with the Sam Maguire cup which Dublin won in the All Ireland Football Final. Dublin beat Kerry to bring the cup back home and we were all delighted to see it last week. We sang Molly Malone for him when he arrived and Dean told us all about the hard work it takes to win the Sam Maguire! Another big congratulations to Dublin on their super victory! :)

Presentation of Irish Flag to St. Patrick's

We recently had an exciting visit from two members of the Army. The two officers presented us with the Irish Flag. This is to commemorate to the centenary of the 1916 Rising and to celebrate 100 years since the Proclomation of the Irish Republic, an important date in Irish history.
Two Junior Infants receiving the flag,

There was excellent listening at the assembly.

Noah and Emily from Second Class did a fantastic job reading an extract from the Proclomation. Well done!

2015/2016 Green School Committee

Our new Green Schools committee members have been working hard this year ensuring we keep our school as Green as possible and they have been doing a super job. Here are some pictures of the different subcommittees.

Transport squad
The transport squad record, on a daily basis, all the children who try really hard to help the environment by walking, scooting, cycling or car pooling to school.
Annalise and Alan from Senior Infants are doing a brilliant job.

Keeva and Enya doing their job and counting all those who walked, scooted, cycled or car pooled.

Water squad
The water squad save water by making sure no taps in any of the classrooms are dripping or leaking.
Jade and Alan make sure none of the First or Second Classes have dripping taps. They do a great job!

Holly and Aidan look after the taps in the infant classes.
Energy Squad
The energy sqaud make sure we don't waste any energy. They make sure lights and whiteboards are switched off at lunchtimes and classroom doors are closed.
Maggie and Daniel from Senior Infants always make sure the doors are closed. Well done!

Jamie and Emily from Second Class are making sure their class always earns their energy token. Great job!

Biodiversity squad
This is our newest squad and these members(also known as Bio-Ds) increase biodiversity in the school garden by keeping the plants watered and litter to an absolute minimum!

Conor and Emily from Senior Infants doing their job! Super work!

Global Citizenship
We are currently working on our 6th Green Flag for Global Citizenship. We want to become a Global Citizen school and there will be a fun event coming up soon to help us become global citizens! We will keep you updated! :)
